Throughout the year, the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department sponsors a number of public community events.
Memorial Day Parade
Since 1923, the Department has sponsored the annual Memorial Day Parade that is held in Old Greenwich. The parade is immediately followed by a short ceremony in Binney Park to commemorate the U.S. men and women who have died in military service to our country. During the ceremony, the names of local residents from Old Greenwich, North Mianus and Riverside who died in action are read out load.
The parade is held each Memorial Day and is run entirely by the members of the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department.

Open House
Each October, the Department holds an Open House in recognition of Fire Prevention Week. Visitors can see all the fire trucks up close, meet the firefighters, learn fire safety tips, learn why it is important to have smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors and how to operate them and see many live demonstrations by members of the Department’s Technical Rescue Team.
